Background

arleneArlene’s passion for accounting is long standing. After completing 3 years of the Certified General Accounting program through the University of Calgary in the late seventies, Arlene took a position teaching accounting at a private college. Two years later, she decided it was time to start a family.

Campbellford, Ontario

Having lived in a lot of cities including Winnipeg, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, and Los Angeles, Arlene wanted to raise her family in a small, welcoming community like she found in the Town of Campbellford, Ontario. In May 1983, she adopted her 6 year old niece, Farrah, moved to Campbellford in June, and gave birth to her son Dean in August. Her daughter Jenna was born September 1986.

In 1984, Arlene started working for Lilian Brode, C.A. in Campbellford. It was there she realized just how much she enjoyed helping people organize their record keeping and most importantly, minimize their taxes.

Whidden Accounting & Tax Services

In June 1990, Arlene started out on the journey of being self employed with the creation of Whidden Accounting & Tax Services.

To stay up to date, Arlene attends accounting and tax update seminars every year. She takes courses offered by the Knowledge Bureau. The latest ones were “Use of Trusts in Tax and Estate Planning” and “Death of a Taxpayer” for which she received an Honours certificate. She have been a member of The Association of Professional Accounting & Tax Consultants Inc. since 2007.

In addition to running her own business, Arlene has been a member of the “Guild of Industrial, Commercial and Institutional Accountants” since 1990 and has served on the Canada Revenue Agency’s Advisory Council since 1997.

She has served as a board member for the Campbellford and District Association for Community Living for two years, Treasurer for the Rotary Club of Campbellford for seven years and Treasurer for The Northumberland Hills Arts Association Inc. (Spirit of the Hills) for one year.
